Tillamook Cheese Factory

If you love cheese or ice cream you cannot miss the Tillamook Cheese Factory. There is no beating their freshly made ice cream or yummy toasted cheese sandwich at the café. Plus it’s fun to watch the cheese go through the factory, learn the history of Tillamook, and try the different stages of cheese. (Try all of them, one is really squeaky and funny). HeeHee.

Canon Beach

For all those aching to see the 3rd largest monolith in the world or the beach from Goonies, look no further. Canon beach with it’s Haystack Rock is a wonderful place to go especially when the tide is out and you can look around at all of the sea creatures in the tidepools.

Seaside Beach

This beach has a fun boardwalk and is where the explorers Lewis and Clark ended their famous expedition (see link below). And you’ll walk away happy if you treat yourself to some fresh salt water taffy.

Mt. Hood

For those of you who love snow and winter sports you’ll want to drive up to gorgeous Mt. Hood. You’ll also enjoy the Timberline Lodge, a historic landmark built entirely by hand during the Depression. If you decide to stay a night there, see if the heated outdoor pool is open. It’s a special experience to swim outside with snow all around. And as some movie trivia, the exterior of the lodge is the “Overlook Hotel” from the horror movie The Shining.

Multnomah Falls

Climb along the trail and stand at the bridge where spray from the waterfall will mist you. When I was young there was a plaque that told the Native American Legend of Multnomah Falls, but the story has since been removed. You can read it at the link below.

Oregon Zoo

Who doesn’t love animals? The Oregon Zoo is a great place to spend the day. If you’ve never had an “Elephant Ear” (the west coast version of funnel cake) you will have to treat yourself to this childhood favorite.
